Heritage Strawberries

Utilising local resources and expertise, considerable research has been undertaken into the history of strawberry growing, and the varieties of strawberries utilised at different times. A plot of land at the Silver Mine has been identified. Funding will now be applied for, to purchase those varieties still available and plant them, with explanatory notices.

Description& rationale

Combe Martins history of strawberry growing was to an extent defined by varieties of early strawberries. CMSMRPS have an orchard containing varieties of old Devon apples and will make land available therein for market gardeners (Wyborn Bros) to plant Heritage strawberry varieties, to preserve a historical asset.
