Preliminary work established the following;
The provision of care for the elderly is woefully under resourced, nationally and regionally. The private sector is far from filling the gap and, if anything, is contracting.
So the need for provision is undoubtedly great. The opportunities for provision of such a facility within Combe Martin are dependent on two things, firstly, an appropriate building/site, and secondly, funding. At this time, neither appears to be available, although the project matter will be kept under review.
Care home
SP 2, 6
Loss of community beds and closure of Council and private residential homes for the elderly means elderly residents requiring care, physical or mental have to leave the village. An investigation will be undertaken utilising the widest possible use of regional and national resources and expertise to establish the feasibility of creating a care facility or sheltered housing within Combe Martin.
